6 Months Old

I know I say this all the time, but I really can not believe how fast time goes by.  6 months old already?!

We had a very quick check up Tuesday (8/14).  He is 16 lbs. 14 oz. and 26 inches long.  Everything is well.

Luke started solid food July 30.  We've tried only a few foods - cereal :(, avocado :), banana :), sweet potato :), and carrot (the jury is still out if he likes carrots or not).

On August 4th, we celebrated Carley's first birthday.

Video: Eating Avocado

After trying rice cereal and not liking it, we tried avocado.  Luke says it's yummy! :)

Paisano 2012

If you've never been to Paisano before, you should check out the website (especially the "history" and "about" sections) to get an idea what it is.   http://www.paisanoencampment.org/

My family has attended Paisano almost every year since we moved to Fort Davis.

Luke and I had a wonderful week at Paisano with my parents.  Unfortunately we left Paul Michael at home to work.  Although while he was working, he got to take his first plane ride to Odessa/Midland.

The first 2 nights (Friday 7/20 and Saturday 7/21) in West Texas Luke and I spent time with Lindsey and Riley at Johnny and Myra's (Lindsey's parents).  (For those of you who don't know Lindsey, she and I have been good friends since we moved to Fort Davis in 1989.  Riley is her daughter who is 3 weeks older than Luke.)

Mom, Dad, Luke, and I spent the rest of the week enjoying ourselves at Paisano.  Wednesday Luke and I spent the day in Van Horn with Lindsey, Riley, and Blain at their house.  It rained Thursday 7/26 and Friday 7/27.  Thursday afternoon with the rain the temperature was down in the 50s!!!

These 2 babies enjoyed playing and exploring together

Started out with warm weather

A little while later they needed a light blanket
They had 2 blankets before they ended up inside

Told ya it was in the 50s!

This was one happy baby to be outside all the time

Happy 5 Months :)

I have every intention of posting blogs more frequently, but someone just doesn't let that happen!  Luke turned four month last month and decided he didn't need to nap anymore.  It was literally overnight that he decided he wasn't going to take those nice 3 hour naps anymore.  He started just "cat" napping...30 minutes here, 30 minutes there.  That sure does make it hard to get some things done!!!  But over the last couple of weeks he has started back on a little better nap routine - about an hour in the morning, maybe and hour/hour and half early afternoon, and sometimes a short 30/45 minute nap in the evening.

Once again, we have had a busy month!  The last of June/first of July Mom, Luke, and I went to visit family in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, then July 4 Paul Michael, Luke, and I headed to Monroe to spend the holiday with his family.

Luke is growing like crazy.  I just can never get over how fast he grows and changes.  He has mastered rolling from back to front.  Now he is getting mobile.  He can somewhat roll where he wants to go.  Yikes!  Time to start baby proofing everything!!!

Before we headed to Mississippi, Luke went for his therapy evaluation.  The therapist said he looked really good.  She could tell we had been working and doing stretches.  It doesn't look like this is going to be a problem, and he really won't need much therapy.

Last Friday (7/6), we went to look for a new vehicle.  Well, of course, that "looking" really meant buying a new vehicle.  So we traded in the CX7 for an Expedition.  Yay for more room!  Paul Michael was tired of bumping his head every time he got the car seat in or out.  Needless to say, I'm enjoying it too :)

4 Month Check Up

What a busy past few weeks we've had!  My mom came to stay a while with us, and boy, did we stay busy!  We had doctor's appointments, shopping trips, craft projects, and whatever else we could get into.

Luke turned four months last Wednesday and had his check up on Thursday.  He weighed 14 lbs. 14 oz. and 24.5 inches long.  He's growing like a weed!

At his appointment his doctor mentioned he might have a mild torticollis (Click here for a quick definition).  I have been a bit concerned that he might have torticollis since he started trying to hold his head up.  (And the only reason I've even heard of the condition is because Luke's cousin has it and has been in physical therapy for it.)  The pediatrician mentioned it, but she said she just wanted us to watch it and talk about possible therapy at his 6 month check up.  Since I was already a bit concerned about it, I had a physical therapist "screen" him.  She definitely noted some signs and symptoms of torticollis and recommended therapy.  I contacted the pediatrician's and got orders for therapy.  We will hopefully start physical therapy next week and knock this problem out.  The PT we saw said it was very mild and shouldn't be terribly difficult to resolve.

A little update on cloth diapers -
I have to say I'm getting more and more brave.  We are almost exclusively using cloth diapers.  Luke wears them all the time even on all our outings.  We even used them on our trip to Hot Springs.  We are still trying to get the cloth at night down.

This was one of our projects when Mom was here.  She is making us diapers!  This, we discovered, is more complicated than we realized.  But we are working out the kinks.  Pictures of the homemade diapers to come later.
