4 Month Check Up

What a busy past few weeks we've had!  My mom came to stay a while with us, and boy, did we stay busy!  We had doctor's appointments, shopping trips, craft projects, and whatever else we could get into.

Luke turned four months last Wednesday and had his check up on Thursday.  He weighed 14 lbs. 14 oz. and 24.5 inches long.  He's growing like a weed!

At his appointment his doctor mentioned he might have a mild torticollis (Click here for a quick definition).  I have been a bit concerned that he might have torticollis since he started trying to hold his head up.  (And the only reason I've even heard of the condition is because Luke's cousin has it and has been in physical therapy for it.)  The pediatrician mentioned it, but she said she just wanted us to watch it and talk about possible therapy at his 6 month check up.  Since I was already a bit concerned about it, I had a physical therapist "screen" him.  She definitely noted some signs and symptoms of torticollis and recommended therapy.  I contacted the pediatrician's and got orders for therapy.  We will hopefully start physical therapy next week and knock this problem out.  The PT we saw said it was very mild and shouldn't be terribly difficult to resolve.

A little update on cloth diapers -
I have to say I'm getting more and more brave.  We are almost exclusively using cloth diapers.  Luke wears them all the time even on all our outings.  We even used them on our trip to Hot Springs.  We are still trying to get the cloth at night down.

This was one of our projects when Mom was here.  She is making us diapers!  This, we discovered, is more complicated than we realized.  But we are working out the kinks.  Pictures of the homemade diapers to come later.

Video: Laughing

Luke laughed for the first time one night last week.  He was taking his bath, so of course I didn't have a camera.  And as usual, he hasn't  laughed again...

...until today AND I GOT IT ON CAMERA!!!

Paul Michael is bouncing him in the Bumbo seat & the poor guy has the hiccups while he's laughing.

Never a Dull Moment

Happy Mother's Day to me -

I've been wanting a jogging stroller for a while now, so guess what I got for Mother's Day from my sweet hubby :)

Before I got pregnant Dad and I ran a half marathon, now I hope to get back in shape for another...we'll see...

Like I've said...there's never a dull moment around our house. I said all along that if I were able to be home full time I wanted to try cloth diapers. So here it goes...

Almost every person I tell that we're using cloth diapers has the same reaction - "Those pins are scary" or something along those lines.

There are NO pins! Cloth diapers are much different from when my mom tried them. Now days it's like a disposable, but you throw it in the laundry rather than the trash. Let me show you...

The diaper - The outside layer is waterproof with lots of snaps for adjusting to the right size for baby 7-35 lbs. The inner layer is a micro fleece. Liquid goes right through and keeps baby dry (YES, it really works!).

The insert - This microfiber cloth slides between the layers of the diaper and traps lots of tee tee.

This shows the insert half way in the diaper. There's a flap to lift and insert the insert.
One happy baby :)
I will keep you all updated on the adventures in running & diapering

Happy 3 Months Old

The past 3 months have gone by so fast, but at the same time it feels like Luke has always been a part of our family.  I am one lucky mom!

I have really enjoyed my time at home since I quit work.  Luke is growing so fast, and I can't imagine missing it.  He rolled over all my himself last week (5/7).  He's always smiles & coos all the time.  His sweet personality is starting to come out.
